building a house

And just like that, we're finally home

With the help from our amazing family and friends, we were able to celebrate the first day of our life this weekend. The past six and a half years were just temporary as we spent them saving, planning, and dreaming for what we are now living.

And just like that, we're finally home

Pole problems, what else is new?

It’s been almost 3 weeks since the triplets, Jay, and I all caught terrible colds, but we’re finally on the mend! I’ve spent a lot of my couch time picking out the fun stuff for #WildernestBuild such as light fixtures, faucets, and vanities for the bathrooms. Our excavator has been working on our septic, retaining walls, and now our driveway area, and our kitchen cabinets were scheduled to be delivered today!⁣⁣

Septic System Saga

I found the excavator parked in our backyard of the new house yesterday, in preparation for the septic system to go in. Seeing this final, major piece to a functioning house all cleared and staked out according to plan reminded me of the very first time we knew ours was changed forever.⁣

The first project that didn't take 84 years - excavation!

Despite the confusion from the Board of Health as to why they were looking at our septic plan a THIRD time within the last couple of years, NewNewNewSepticPlan.PDF was officially approved by them at the end of February.

We successfully broke the law and couldn't be happier

July 10th has been my only concern this past month as we awaited our variance hearing. Every time I saw it on the calendar, or heard it in passing, it would trigger my anxiety and give me hot flashes. July 10th was the date of variance hearing, which I talked about it my last post.

It took 12 weeks after Eversource told us "30 days," but they're in

You may remember my post, from back in November, about how we got our 4 private poles installed - then how they all got destroyed by a freak Nor’Easter about 7 days later. We have since repaired the poles, which only cost us $500 thanks to our pole guy being an incredible human being. None of the wires, despite like 4 massive trees on top of one of them, sustained any damage and the poles themselves just needed a bit of readjusting to get everything back to par. Finally, it was time for Eversource to get in and do their part.

Did you know telephone poles are made of gold?

Happy New Year! 2016 was a great year that started us on this journey and we're sad to see it go, but excited to see what 2017 will bring for our Wildernest. Currently, we're trying to get power to the property.

Even protecting yourself from getting sued can get you sued!

Some of the things that come with waiting to build on our vacant land include dealing with insurance and how to protect ourselves from this sue-happy world. God forbid someone takes it upon themselves to explore our property, trips and gets hurt - everything we have ever worked for could be taken away in an instant.

But we have the blueprints, the paint colors, & the dreams

Jay and I just got back from the Bristol County Registry of Deeds, where we closed on the 6 acres of land we made on offer on back in June. We now have the means to move forward with our journey and build the house of our dreams.

But back in June, when we discovered our property, things weren't as easy as they seemed.
