Our first time tapping what we thought were maple trees

The look on your face when you realized you tapped a bunch of oak trees 😳😂⁣

We took advantage of the warm weather the other day to go out and try tapping some maple trees for the first time. It’s always been something I wanted to do and to later get the triplets involved when they were old enough to understand. ⁣

I had purchased the supplies year ago, after buying our land, but didn’t realize you had to collect the sap every day or risk it being spoiled. I’ve been waiting until we were living in the new house to try them out, so this weekend was my chance. ⁣

Being a complete tapping noob, it’s hard to differentiate between oaks and maples in the winter. Some differences I read that only applied to maple still applied to these oak trees apparently (like buds on the twigs), so it will be a bit of trial and error before we figure it out I suppose. Either way, it’s a fun learning experience and will be an even more fun opportunity to make some maple syrup. By the time the kiddos are old enough to help, I’ll have it down pat! ⁣
